Three teenagers reach Bangalore for their engineering degree and gets involved in a fight with seniors. They find a local gangster named Ranga to help them take revenge.

"Aavesham" storms onto the screen as a high-voltage cocktail of comedy, action, and sheer entertainment, firmly establishing itself as a must-watch in the Malayalam cinema landscape. Led by Fahadh Faasil's electrifying performance as Ranga, the film grips you from the get-go and never let’s go.

The movie revolves around three youngsters navigating the treacherous waters of college life in Bangalore, only to find themselves entangled in a web of brutality and revenge. FaFa's portrayal of Ranga, the local gangster, is nothing short of mesmerizing, with his Kannada – Malayalam slang adding an extra layer of authenticity to the character.

But it's not just FaFa who shines; the supporting cast, including the debutants, delivers standout performances that complement the narrative beautifully. Sajin Gopu's impeccable timing and mannerisms add an extra dose of humor to the proceedings, while the chemistry among the cast members elevates the overall experience.

Director Jithu Madhavan's deft hand at blending dark humor with heart-pounding action is evident throughout the film, keeping the audience engaged and entertained from start to finish. The first half sets the stage with its portrayal of hostel life and the boys' struggle against their tormentors, while the second half delves deeper into Ranga's past and the consequences of seeking revenge.

The technical aspects of the film, including Sameer Thahir's cinematography and Sushin Shyam's pulsating background score, deserve special mention for enhancing the overall impact of the narrative. Every frame oozes with energy, making the theatrical experience truly immersive.

While "Aavesham" isn't without its flaws, particularly in the second half's pacing, it more than makes up for it with its relentless energy and unforgettable moments. From FaFa's powerhouse performance to the seamless blend of comedy and action, this film is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that demands to be experienced on the big screen.

Dasara Story:

Dharani (Nani), Suri (Deekshith Shetty) and Vennela (Keerthy Suresh) are friends since childhood. Their relatively calm lives are upended for reasons far beyond their control and things will never be the same.

Dasara Review:

Debutant Srikanth Odela’s Dasara is a mixed bag and there’s no two ways about it. On one hand, the film is visually gripping, the characters seem like they’ve more to offer and the atmosphere feels like everything is about to come undone at any second. On the other hand, Srikanth sets up themes he never fully explores, or worse, wraps them up with hasty conclusions. Due to that, the sucker punches hit you hard and the rest…they just don’t.

operation Valentine (OV), directed by debutant Shakti Pratap Singh Hada, positions itself as the first Telugu aerial action thriller and narrates the story of a covert operation handled by the Indian Air Force. The film is inspired by real incidents during the Balakot airstrikes following the Pulwama attack in 2019. Also simultaneously filmed in Hindi, it marks its lead actor Varun Tej’s debut in Hindi cinema.

Considering the shrinking boundaries between languages as movie lovers are spoilt for choice, it is tough to dismiss the heavy sense of deja vu for those who have watched the recent Hindi film Fighter. It might be a co-incidence that both these films were being made simultaneously, but the timing of the release makes the comparison all the more unavoidable.

Sailesh also gives Nawazuddin’s character a vulnerability so that his thirst for supremacy makes his menacing acts more authentic. Making the actor speak in a mix of Dakhni and Telugu also works well. In his first Telugu film, Nawazuddin is in his element. Ruhani Sharma in a brief part as a doctor, Shraddha Srinath and Andrea Jeremiah are effective and add credibility to their parts. Arya looks the part assigned to him but is relegated to a brief appearance that doesn’t require him to showcase his acting chops.

Considerable effort has gone into presenting the fictional port city of Chandraprastha with its circuit of flyovers and upscale constructions, to make it befitting of a city where an underworld operates. Manikandan’s cinematography contributes to the grittiness of the narrative.

Despite all this, Saindhav does not soar. It falls short of being a riveting emotional action drama. A few stretches are impressive but on the whole, there was scope to be way smarter and absorbing. If they go on to make part two, they have their task cut out.
